What is the llms.txt file?

The llms.txt file is a Markdown file placed at the root of a site (like robots.txt or sitemap.xml). It gives large language models a structured, reliable summary of the site: its name, description and the key pages to read.

Per the specification, only the H1 title is required, but a good file also includes a blockquote summary, thematic H2 sections and lists of absolute links with short descriptions. It is a major AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) lever to be cited accurately by AI.
